3/06/10- Van Metre 5 Mile Run for Children’s Hospital
35:03!!! A PR! Over a 2 minute improvement over last year. I definitely built my confidence up with this race. I think what made the difference was lots of speedwork this time. Even though the treadmill can be pretty boring, it really can improve your pace, dramatically! I still have the goal of a sub-7:00min/mile pace for my next 5K. While I’ve gotten really close, I still haven’t been able to do it…yet!
With the National Half right around the corner, I did my last “big”run today @ 7:30 min/mile pace x 13 miles. Hopefully, I can repeat this pace next weekend, and keep the confidence through the finish. That is also one of my most important recommendations to any runner. Speed up your pace on the last mile of your training runs. This will “program” your body to be ready for that “kick” during the last mile of any race.
Run Happy!! 🙂
