Last year, I had not one, but TWO, Brooks Women’s Thermal Utopia Hoodies. When I saw that Brooks was making a second generation of this already amazing hoodie, I couldn’t wait to have one.
First of all, I love the new colors for this fall. I went with this really cute brushed gray/black combo. The fit is listed on Brooksrunning.com as “Semi-fitted”. I went with a women’s medium- the small feels a little too snug for me, but, I definitely recommend trying on a couple of different sizes to see what you prefer. The zipper is very easy to zip up and down, and there’s even a “chaffing guard” at the top of the zipper to protect your neck/chin from rubbing.
Brooks has included a spandex side splice on either side of the body of the hoodie. This feature really comes in handy especially during a run, when you want as much performance and “give” as possible. The fit through the shoulder area, down the arms, feels just right. I don’t feel like i’m constricted in any way. The thumb holes come in very handy on chilly days, and or to keep the sleeves in place with gloves on.
For folks like me who love pockets, there are side “hand warmer” pockets on the front, and, an internal moisture-proof media pocket. I love that it’s large enough to easily fit my iPhone or iPod, and with a Velcro closure tab, I don’t have to worry about either falling out.
The hood of the Brooks Women’s Thermal Utopia Hoodie II includes a spliced mesh over the ear area, which happens to be not only more comfortable, but, an important safety feature. There is also a pony tail exit which, especially for me, comes in very handy. Another very important safety feature Brooks includes is 360 degrees of 3M* Scotchlite* retroreflectivity to keep you visible in the dark, at any angle.
Fabric: Main Body: Utopia Thermal (85% polyester/15% spandex); Heathered Main Body: 88% polyester/12% spandex; Side Splice: Vapor-Dry Plus (94% moisture-transfer polyester/6% spandex); Hood Splice: 92% moisture-transfer polyester/8% spandex mesh
